The
SIGProtMIt is an in silico tool based
upon the sequences of Conserved Signature proteins (CSPs) for rapid determination
of the presence or absence of different organisms using next generation sequence
data (techniques). This web-based tool is based upon a large dataset of validated CSPs that are
uniquely found in particular (phyla) groups of organisms at multiple
phylogenetic levels. These CSPs are also predicted to be present in other
members of these groups, which have not yet been studied or sequenced. Hence,
Blast searches with the sequences of these CSPs (amino acid or nucleotide) provide
a novel and highly specific mean for rapidly and reliably detecting the
presence or absence of different organisms in the NGS dataset.
